Why In Mala Fide is Not Participating in the SOPA/PIPA Blackout

Because the JavaScript that Wikipedia and other sites are using for the blackout can be defeated with a simple, free Firefox plugin:

But don’t fear, there’s an easy way to access Wikipedia.

Wikipedia’s blackout is achieved using some JavaScript. So, all you need is a trusty copy of the Firefox web browser and the popular NoScript add-on.

In other words, all the Reddit nerdrage over SOPA has done nothing but mildly inconvenience people. Just smell the fail!

Granted, I’m against SOPA like the rest of the Internet, because it’s an incredible infringement on free speech. But limp-wristed gestures like JavaScript blackouts do absolutely nothing to help fight it, aside from making the site owner feel all warm and snugly inside.

On this page of Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:SOPA_initiative/Learn_more), they say:

“Is it still possible to access Wikipedia in any way?
Yes. During the blackout, Wikipedia is accessible on mobile devices and smart phones. You can also view Wikipedia normally by disabling JavaScript in your browser, as explained on this Technical FAQ page. Our purpose here isn’t to make it completely impossible for people to read Wikipedia, and it’s okay for you to circumvent the blackout. We just want to make sure you see our message.”

Anybody with a brain could just click on the Learn More link and scroll half a page where you will see this:

“Is it still possible to access Wikipedia in any way? Yes. During the blackout, Wikipedia is accessible on mobile devices and smart phones. Actually, all you have to do is hit “esc” and you’ll avoid the redirect.

This is why I participated in the blackout and put the javascript redirect at my blog….that and I don’t have the time to compose a legit post today.

But I admit it, it made me feel all warm and snugly inside! LOZLZOLZOL

lol. it DID make me feel like, i’m sticking it to the MAN maaaaaaan. however, 2 things?

i’m NOT internet savvy enough to know how to bypass the whojimmyzamobbit to access wikipedia. and i don’t really get that many views anyway. so i’m pretty sure i’m not inconveniencing too many people.

i mean, who the hell am i? lol.

You mean that I don’t get to suck your cock, Ferd? I want to taste you sooooo badly!

It’s even easier than that! Just type “cache:” into Google along with the wikipedia page you want to access and you’ll get a version of the page that was cached yesterday. Easy Breazy Beautiful Cover Girl

LOL

Apparently the blogger spam bots detected the SOPA/PIPA black out redirect script on my blog post, and they removed my blog for “malicious javascript.”

5 years of blogging….gone, just like that.

@Keoni – Given that your position is Google’s position, maybe they will share the cache they undoubtedly have so you can get the whole library back online.

I am in aus and think this whine fest is laughable given how easily americans bend over to be buttfucked by their gov every which way and this law will pass as a child porn thing regardless, but is it true as I heard on the radio that the bill is losing support because of this?

12 Clarence January 19, 2012 at 9:57 am

Ok:
It’s a tragedy that Keoni’s blog went down, and I do hope they can restore it.
Ferd, you rarely make retarded posts, but this one is retarded.
The fact is most people have no idea what Javascript is, and this has helped get the word out about those bills in a big time way. They weren’t trying to “block” the internet with uber techno geekery like you seem to imply, instead they merely wanted to make a statement. The mouth breathers who have put these bills together in congress (who are sooooooooo proud about how little they understand what they attempt to regulate!) are running scared now. I’d say they did a good job.

If the Internet were only something that rich people could afford (or only elites knew how to use – like it was in the early 90s) all of these protestors would instead be *cheering* the censorship of these ‘right-wing elements’ on the net. They’re mainly only upset because they likes them some internet videos.

SOPA is an indirect outcome of corrupted political movements. Corrupted politicians want to promote their corrupted ideologies.

This blackout fucktardery is why I hate everything. Protest by cutting *everybody* off, rather than, I don’t know, specifically blocking all government institutions IPs. Wikipedia is SUCH a part of the Cathedral.
