"P.," woman accusing Israeli journalist Yoav Even of rape, at a rally opposing sexual violence
My friends, I write to you today asking for your assistance in righting a miscarriage of justice. A reader who I will keep anonymous emailed me an article from liberal, Jewish, anti-Israel blogger Richard Silverstein entitled “Got the Goods on Yoav Even“. It’s ostensibly about how Even, a Tel Aviv-based reporter for Israel’s Channel 2, roofied and raped a young woman (whom Silverstein refers to only as “P.”) he’d been courting over Facebook. According to both my tipster and Silverstein, the case was thrown out because the prosecutor could not find enough evidence proving that Even did in fact rape P. However, a judge issued a gag order preventing Even’s name or any details of the case being reported in the Israeli media. Silverstein found this beyond risible, and has published not only Even’s name, but a paraphrased version of the statement P. purportedly gave to police about how Even raped her. He writes:
I want to preface this narrative with an important fact that has colored this case and perverted it from the beginning. Judge Beni Sagi issued a gag order that prevented Israelis from reporting Even’s name or any details of the case. I’ve blogged here before about the pernicious effect that this has had on the process of justice and the public’s right to know. I am writing about this case not just because I am personally revulsed by violence against women, but because as a democracy activist I am offended by gag orders which repress free speech, freedom of the press, and which distort the judicial process.
Keep in mind that Silverstein refused to publish the name of Even’s accuser, spewing forth this feminist pabulum to justify his hypocrisy:
I cannot name the victim, that is why I use the initial P. Though this is by her choice (and under Israeli law the media may not name a rape victim unless she gives permission before a court), the reason she cannot allow herself to be named is because of the stigma attached to the act within Israeli society. She would be forever branded and stigmatized as Yoav Even’s conquest. So no one in Israel can name either the victim or the alleged rapist in this case, which in essence muzzles the victim and all Israeli women. This is why I’ve featured the image of the wounded woman with mouth stitched shut below. This represents not only the victim in this case, but all who have suffered from sexual violence and felt they could not speak about it. The brutality against the victim in this case is but the first crime. The second is the way she’s been treated by the police and Israeli legal system, which have prevented her from telling all Israel about what happened. Thus, she has been twice victimized.
Silverstein claims that the Israeli police and media colluded to get the case dropped both because of Even’s clout with the Israeli “good ol’ boy network” and because P. has “unconventional views of lots of issues related to gender sexuality” (read: she’s a feminist). I encourage you to read his whole post before proceeding. Go ahead, I’ll wait.
Yoav Even, Israeli reporter accused of rape
I tried doing some research on this story, but the only English-language links I could turn up either came from Silverstein’s blog (see here for an archive) or site scrapers stealing articles from his blog. Given that Silverstein is a namby-pamby liberal who reads more like a cliche from The Culture of Critique then an actual human being (his blog is titled Tikun Olam, for Chrissake), and that he has openly stated that he is siding with P., I can’t rely on him for an unbiased account of this story. As such, I currently remain neutral on whether Even is guilty or innocent.*
However, to name the accused but not the accuser in a rape case is a disgustingly hypocritical move, typical of the American feminist establishment. If one side is to be exposed for the world to jeer at and condemn, so should the other. The fact that there are no unbiased English-language accounts of this case is also a cause for alarm. As this blog has worked to expose rape accusers in the past, such as in the cases of Julian Assange and Dominique Strauss-Kahn, I am stepping up to the plate again to advocate for justice for men, be they guilty or innocent.
Subsequently, I am asking In Mala Fide’s Israeli and Hebrew-speaking readers to please help me in exposing the truth about this case. I need two things from you:
- The name and picture of Yoav Even’s accuser, P. Silverstein published a picture of P. (which I showed above), but with her face airbrushed out. I need a picture with her face clearly visible and identifiable. This is the most important thing that I need.
- Any English-language information about the Yoav Even rape case you can provide, be it a primary source (court transcripts, police testimony, Facebook chats etc.) or secondary (news articles, blog posts).
I will publish as much good information about the case as I can get.
Since I’m an American citizen, based in the Northeast, writing on a website whose servers are in California, I can publish this information without fear of reprisal from the Israeli justice system. However, due to the gag order, if you are in Israel or an Israeli citizen, you could potentially land in hot water for informing me. To protect my sources, I’ve set up a special email account solely for receiving information about the Even rape case. I will not publish ANY informants’ names or private information.
Additionally, if you link to Richard Silverstein’s blog in the comments, I ask you to run the link through anonym.to before doing so. I will delete ANY links that aren’t anonymized.
I should repeat that I remain neutral on whether Yoav Even is guilty of raping this woman. However, without more information on the case aside from Silverstein’s grossly biased accounts, we have no way of knowing the truth. I appreciate any and all assistance I can get in revealing the facts about this story.

* – Some chode writing in to grerp’s blog accused me of engaging in “vicious anti-Semitism” and of “jumping to the defense” of Dominique Strauss-Kahn when I repeatedly stated I had no opinion on the case. I don’t care about getting hated on, but ignorance is a sin in my book. As for the anti-Semitism bit, I’m presently working to countermand a liberal American Jew to help an Israeli Jew who may or may not be getting a bum rap. If Even innocent, he has been wronged by this douche blogger, who it sounds like has broken the law by leaking his name. If he’s guilty, he’s gotten off lightly by having his name leaked. If she’s lying, the best case scenario is what happened before Silverstein leaked Even’s name. If she’s telling the truth, I don’t see how publicly naming her as a rape victim in a society that stigmatizes it serves justice. Pascal’s matrix indicates to me that if anybody needs outed and harassed, it’s Silverstein. Perhaps he’d like sausage and bacon pizzas delivered to him at all hours?
Sometimes, to get around problems, one has to be clever.
You might look in the comments sections for an off-hand remark. If someone knows it, the real name might slip out.
Maybe you can find the city she lives in, a career. If she’s a modern woman, she’s got to have a twitter, linkedin, facebook, the works. There’s got to be alot of Isreali feminists would like to see this guy fry. Something is out there – you just have to find the right word or phrase to find it.
Gordon, I have no idea how much Israeli society disdains rape victims, but given Silverstein’s leftist views, he’s probably overdramatizing it. Especially since both Even and P. are from Tel Aviv, which is pretty libertine city.
My simple belief is that so long as men accused of rape are fair game, so are their accusers. Though Silverstein probably accumulated enough bad karma over his lifetime to be deserving of a little blowback too.
And yeah, he broke the law, but being an American, he can’t be punished.
I think we’re all re-learning the fact that, when cornered, liberals accuse their attacker of racism and/or anti-Semitism, sexism, homophobia, elitism, etc. because it’s the only insult a liberal has. “You don’t think we’re all equal, therefore, you’re evil!”

Dack: Erm, I have no clue about Yoav Even’s politics, though Silverstein (the actual liberal Jew) takes great pains to depict Even as a knuckle-dragging misogynist and seducer.
From a cursory examination, it looks like this is old news (even though I hadn’t heard of it). Word of this leaked onto Israeli websites as early as late March.
I’ll see what more I can dig up later.

From the article it seems it is the source of the information being liberal, not the accused. It is not clear if the accused is liberal or not.
A Ma’ariv article from May 18 has photos of Yoav Even celebrating with his co-workers from Channel 2. He’s reported to be returning to his job soon. Perhaps by now he already has – I’m not a big TV watcher.
It seems that the douche Silverstein is reporting on a case that his side has already lost.

People like Richard Silverstein need to understand there will be consequences to those they are allegedly trying to protect if they violate orders of this kind. Basic fairness says you do NOT publish or disseminate unprosecuted accusations.
I don’t know if this woman is a victim or not, but Mr. Silverstein has no right to act as Judge and Jury in trying to ruin a suspect’s life.

Richard Silverstein is not anti-Israel. Silverstein is a critic of the government of Israel, but he overall supports Israel. Calling Silverstein anti-Israel is just not true. You should change that description.
Secondly, some of the men in Israel are super macho. They definitely aren’t putting women on a pedestal. Israel is not the USA.
Even the former president of Israel was found guilty of rape in Israel. So it’s possible that there was a rape.
Which isn’t really the point. The point is: “I am stepping up to the plate again to advocate for justice for men, be they guilty or innocent.”
Justice is only truly justice if it is blind and if it is universal. My personal inclination is to believe DSK’s accuser, but I posted her name and picture on my blog anyway.
