I figured that Tuesday’s post on Lara Logan would garner some hits – ain’t nothing like a super-concentrated dose of truth to piss people off – but the swiftness with which the outrage came shocked me. Within a mere few hours, my post was being Tweeted and linked all over the map, with feminists, neocons and even strippers – yes, strippers – maligning me as a misogynist, an asshole, a piece of shit or what have you. My personal favorite was this Tweet:

For those who don’t know, I Spit on Your Grave is a 70′s exploitation film about a woman who exacts revenge on the men who gang-raped her in various gruesome ways. The comedy comes from the fact that this same girl Tweeted just minutes before that the comments to my post were making her cry. Remember, if you aren’t giving at least one feminist per day a nervous breakdown, you have failed as a writer.
But one feminist who reacted to my post has a special place in my heart. Her name is Molly, she blogs at Progressive Blogic, and she was one of the first to respond to me, calling me a “truly vile blogger” amid other nuggets like these:

Molly’s little self-righteous screed is emblematic of the destructive, reality-denying nature of liberalism and feminism. All ideologies, from CONservatism to LIEbertarianism, are about denying reality to an extent, but LIEberalism and its daughter ideologies are by far the worst. When confronted with a fact of reality outside his power to change, the rational person adjusts his actions appropriately. The liberal feminist stamps her foot and petulantly rages about why no one will move heaven and earth to meet her needs. She pursues any course of action possible to avoid having to alter her own behavior, because She is Right and Everyone Else is Wrong.
Take the Logan case. A rational person would realize that rapists will always exist among the human population, and that a white woman reporter would be at a higher risk of rape in a place like revolutionary Egypt and would not have sent her there. The liberal feminist says something like “Women are raped and sexually assaulted every minute of every day in every country on Earth” and sends the white woman reporter anyway, then when a gang of a couple dozen undersexed men grab and use the reporter as an unwilling cum dumpster, she feigns shock and lashes out at the rational people who said “I told you so!” See these replies of Molly’s to a commenter who contested her “rape isn’t about sex, it’s about power” femgrrl shibboleths:

And as a number of commenters pointed out yesterday, had those Egyptian rioters known the truth about Logan’s past, how much of a debauched, depraved, disloyal slut she was (by their standards, not ours), they wouldn’t have just raped her, they would have KILLED her and tossed her violated corpse into the Nile. (And this story about her being saved by a bunch of Egyptian women is probably a lie too. She likely owes her rescue solely to the soldiers who didn’t want to risk an international incident.)
Lara Logan had no business being in Cairo, or anywhere in that part of the world for that matter. All of you leftie feminist tossers screeching about “rape culture” have her blood on your hands. How many more have to suffer before your lies are discredited?

As an army veteran of both the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars, I can tell you these places as well as Egypt and other nations are not safe places to be. Even men get gang-raped in these places. For example, last year when I was in Afghanistan, a U.S. Army Officer pay grade O-4, a Major, was anally gang-raped by 3 local worker Afghan nationals on Bagram Airfield(BAF) despite them being unarmed, and he most likely having a nine-milimeter handgun on him. The Afghans in question probably seemed friendly at first, then grabbed him unexpectantly, beat him and finally anally raped him. Majors in the Army are typically Lara Logan’s age or a little younger usually in their early to mid thirties. BAF is the safest or very close to it installation in Afghanistan in my opinion. In addition, Afghans believe very fair White skin, blue or green eyes, red hair and blond hair as well as the caucasion skull and facial structure is physically beautiful. I’m getting out of the military after 8 years of service soon so once I’m out I will never have any Inactive Ready Reserve(IRR) time and I will almost certainly never be called back in because all initial military contracts are X amount of time active duty and either Y amount of time in the Federal Reserve or National Guard or Z amount of time in the IRR. I prefered not to run the risk of stop loss and being dragged back in as much as I could. It’s extremely unlikely I will be called back in for duty in the military.

What happened to Lara Logan is going to have repercussions beyond the immediate. It has been a true wake up call for the rights of women everywhere. It is exactly the kind of outrageous spark that needs to happen to get the collective conversation started about equal rights.
Power comes in two forms: external and internal. True–women are physically smaller but they possess many other powers not as easily accessible to men. Similarly, other oppressed groups have managed to break off the bondage but only through taking courageous actions such as putting one self in harm’s way. That is exactly what Lara Logan was doing…..exercising her human right to be using her gifts as a reporter to tell a story. Did she exercise poor judgement relative to her personal safety? Yes. Then again, how is that different from any other person who puts themselves at risk for a cause? Would you assign the same hatred and vitriol the people currently protesting in Iran?

There are risks involved any many things we do, even if we don’t know the full extent of those risks. People understand when they board an air plane that it could crash or be taken over by terrorists. Do we say “Fuck you! You had it coming!” to the victims of 911?
Whether or not she is telling the truth is another matter. The truth is, some women lie and some men rape — both are horrible. And instead of spreading threatening sentiments like “the more women talk about these things the more no one will take them seriously,” you should be concerned with the fact that the more men say women deserve rape — for any reason — the more people will continue to think most men are guilty.
Out of idle curiosity, isn’t “liberal feminist” kinda redundant? I don’t disagree with Mala about the main thrust of this post, but I’ve yet to see one example of the feminist species that could not be described as liberal.

When I first read about Logan’s assault, my thoughts were a melange of “How awful; what was that idiot doing there; Goddamn Muslims; I wonder if this will change her idiot liberal view of the world; poor woman; idiot fool woman; etc. etc.” Did she “deserve” to be attacked/fondled/raped by a bunch of Muslim cretins? There’s no point when, once you’ve completed boot camp, military leadership approaches you and asks if the Iraq and Afghanistan invasions sit right with you, or whether or not you wouldn’t rather be fighting off waves of illegal immigrants. Are you stupid enough to think that servicemembers are free agents who get to select their own theaters of operation and give themselves orders? Wake up. Most people in the military are there because it’s their job, they like getting paychecks, and they don’t have better offers on the table. If people want to call them heroes, most of them aren’t going to object, but the reality of the situation is totally different from what you see on TV. They enlist, or get commissioned, because they want the job, and they follow orders from there on. It’s that simple. There’s no shortage of American men waiting to enlist, and if there ever were they would simply induct more illegal immigrants or black females than they already do or reinstate the draft. The point is, don’t blame servicemembers for the policies they have no influence over. Whether or not you agree with specific actions our military is taking, having a military is absolutely essential. Therefore, having people IN the military is, obviously, essential too. Personally, I sympathize but disagree with what you’ve said about the benefit of the doubt in this case. Firemen and police officers are revered and honored when they put their lives on the line because their professions are both necessary to society and inherently dangerous. Someone has to fill those dangerous roles, so the people that choose to do it day in and day out without complaint and without seeking attention are, in my book, praiseworthy.
I think the difference in this case is that having a cute blonde reporter in the middle of violent, rioting Arabs who dislike the West is not necessary. It is entertaining, at best. It’s also clear from her behaviors in other situations that she is anything but noble and brave. I agree with what you said about the military being a Veteran of both Iraq and Afghanistan. Most of us needed a job that paid first and foremost, but we also wanted to serve our country. Many if not most of us personally disagree with much of what our leadership wants us to do. We follow orders and the consequences of not doing so are dire. We serve for everyone else’s freedom in the U.S. military, but have little to none of our own. I found Afghanistan to be worse than Iraq as far as the living conditions, logistics and the seriousness etc. of the war even though I liked virtually all of the Afghanis I met. Some I didn’t like. You have the right to do so which I will defend to the death as I’m obligated at present to do. It would be better to say, ” Don’t you think it’s foolish to defend a leadership which is trying to destroy us and our freedom?” I may or may not disagree with you, but you often catch more flies with honey than vinegar although being harsh has its place too. People have a tendency to become more irrationally entrenched in their position when personally attacked or insulted. For starters, thanks for your service. I may believe that invading Iraq was not a great idea, but military men don’t pick their battles. They merely follow orders that, ultimately, come from the democratically elected civilian leadership.
It is demanded of military men that they to die for their country. By contrast, it is not even demanded of congressmen that they sacrifice their political careers. For example, only 2 senators voted against the Gulf of Tonkin resolution in 1964, and 58,000+ Americans died in Vietnam. Almost four decades later, the same mistakes were made.
Instead of bashing the U.S. Military, Americans should demand a modicum of courage and sacrifice from those who (theoretically) represent them in Congress. And Americans should keep in mind that duty is not restricted to those wearing uniforms: any sort of non-farcical democracy requires a well-informed and educated citizenry.

Why should I support it? It’s not just a job you have. The reason why we respect your service and death if it should happen (I pray for your safe return) is that you aren’t merely workers slaving at a job. You are symbolic of all that we hold dear and as truth. You are the embodiment in arms of our nation, that is us, our people. You are our finest example of who we are.

I know you meant well from your previous post and the one before where you said “cunts”. I stayed my hand from typing a response even though I was a little annoyed because first, I try not to state anything out of anger, and second because I thought you might be British, Austraian, New Zealander or Irish. Americans and I think even Canadians take being called a cunt more offensively than the British, Austrailaians, New Zealanders and Irish. See we’re all in the Anglo-sphere, but we sometimes misunderstand eachother because we’re a people seperated by a common language so to to speak. Then retards wonder why one may want to reconsider increasing diversity and here we have a prime example between two nationalities being about as culturally and linguistically close as one can get misunderstanding eachother over a blog. Although militarily and professionally I support the President and Congress of the USA, I personally wish the USA never invaded Iraq or at least gotten out of Iraq sooner and had gotten out of Afghanistan sooner. Anecdotally, most people inside both our American and Austrailian military people would personally and profesionally in a military sense agree with my personal and professional views with the caveat that the Austrailians don’t support the American President and Congress but rather support the Austrailian Prime Minister and Parliament.

I agree completely with your most recent post. The military is corrupted, no doubt about it. I don’t have any particular objection to being called a cunt – I responded earlier because I think it’s important to recognize that many, many servicemembers feel the very same way as you, but have no power to set policies or alter the system.
Something to consider is that a fair portion of the people who serve separate after their first term of service has been fulfilled, and didn’t know what they were getting into when they signed the dotted line. For those who don’t know, once you’ve signed there’s no quitting, and you’re stuck following whatever lawful orders you are given until your time is served. There are ways out of service midterm – like faking diseases or injuries and open faggotry – but they’re only open to dishonorable wormdogs.
Any group of people is going to display behaviors that are less than virtuous in some cases, and this is probably amplified to some degree in the military because of the unique difficulties of the lifestyle, but I can tell you honestly that a majority of those serving are professionals who make genuine personal sacrifices to complete the mission, even when they disagree with it. A significant factor in my decision not to reenlist is the dishonorable nature of the people setting policies for the military. I wasn’t prepared to spend another decade having anti-male, multicultural, communist propaganda shoved down my throat during frequent mandatory ‘training’ sessions.
All I really want to say is that it’s possible to serve a dishonorable system honorably. Yes, we are each responsible and ultimately accountable for our livlihood and its effects, but until the existence of the US military has a net negative value I contend there is still virtue in service. Because it is subjective I cannot judge for anyone else if that point has been reached, but from my perspective we would be much worse off with no military at all than we are now with a mismanaged one.

I never went through combat in Iraq nor Afghanistan, but I did do service to which I’m grateful for not going through combat. As I tell people being a fobbit staying on installation is bad enough, and it only gets worse from there. I stayed in my present unit instead of trying to return to South Korea because yes I selfishly wanted more money after returning from Iraq, but I also stayed because I never wanted a new soldier to take my spot and see Afghanistan. I hope whoever was going to take my place went to Korea and experienced the high levels of hedonism I and most others experienced there and that he never experiences or knows anything I have. I say this as a man who was extremely lucky to be part of a Combat Aviation Brigade in an Assault Helicopter Battalion who was in many if not most respects let off easy especially in comparison to those who served in Infantry and combat engineer battalions and ground cavalry scout squadrons etc.

I don’t think most civilians realize how much serving in the military of not only the USA, but also Austrailia, Britian etc. negatively affects the military person’d family relationships or even that with their civilian lovers or friends. This is especially true when it comes to spouses and lovers. The divorce rate for the American Army is at 75% and for the American Marine Corps at 70% which is at an all time high.
