I finally got around to watching white supremacist caricature Alvin Greene embarrass himself in front of the nation. All I can say is weep for your country, Americans. This is idiocracy in action. This is what happens when you both encourage minority tribalism and give morons a say in how the country is run.

I have peopleofwalmart.com in my RSS feed. Everyday I get three pictures to remind me of how terrible an idea democracy is. Despite these daily reminders, I was still surprised by Alvin Greene. Is there no lower bound beyond which democracy cannot sink?

When I first heard of this, I thought, “Alvin Green, that sounds familiar. I didn’t know he’s from SC.” But I was thinking Al Green, who is somebody else.
I wonder why everybody chose him. It doesn’t make any sense, unless it’s because his name was at the top of the alphabetized ballot. Maybe it was a knee-jerk anybody-but-the-other-guy reaction. A protest vote.

As a child, I was a citizen of South Carolina, by the way. I actually sort of like it there. Time moves slowly and the beaches are nice.
How is this guy the worst example of democracy in action (I actually like this guy’s Forrest Gumpiness – all politicians should shut their mouths more often like this guy). Anyway, how is he the worst example of Democratic flaw when you have an entire congress and executive branch of government filled with slick self-serving sociopaths and power-hungry feminists. At least this guy sounds like a humble simpleton who would take the time to LISTEN to his constituents concerns in silence and leave his ego at the door. If anything, we need MORE Alvin Green’s in politics. This site is working it’s way down from a reasoned case against feminist entitlement to another mindless hate blackie and minorities site.

I really don’t see him as any worse than any of the black congressmen I’ve seen speak, or, for that matter, Waxman, Frank, etc.
To be honest, if he went into government and just did Absolutely Nothing, it would be an improvement. He’d at least be taking up a seat usually occupied by a corrupt sycophant. I like Vox’s take on it.
Perhaps we should fill government with homemakers, dentists, veterans, and engineers. They could hardly do worse. A decent homemaker would understand the benefits of thrift and transparent accounting. A dentists would be able to see what a mess the health system is. A veteran would be concerned at the breakdown of military families. An engineer would notice that the infrastructure is crumbling and the school children can’t add.
This is democracy in action, FB. Politicians are getting a message loud-and-clear. We’d rather vote for this guy than for you, because you are total crap. Kiss our combined Big Black Ass.

Obsidian wrote about this today. I suspect Desi feels this post is racist. However, Lady Raine and Desi and gang don’t wish to debate or engage the issues. Thus, rather than make an intelligible comment, she simply trolls by and calls the writer a cunt, end of.

This might actually be the best argument FOR democracy. I watched the video and obviously he is not the brightest bulb in the room but he IS in a situation that MANY Americans find themselves in now: broke, unemployed, living with his parents as an adult, and a veteran of un-necessary wars in resource-rich foreign lands on behalf of Big Corporations.
Perhaps he’ll bring some grass-roots, real perspective to our government. Not all political leaders have to be from privileged and highly-schooled backgrounds. And true visionaries seldom are.
Let’s see what he can do. I mean it’s not like he’ll do any WORSE than any of these other goons.

Yeah, but they call “Amtrak” and mass transit “pork” projects when you need such modes to reduce the loads placed on the other modes of transport. These are the same idiots who’ll underfund something, then complain that it sucks when so many corners were cut leaving a far less effective project.
That’s just self-serving politics. Their voters don’t tend to live in large cities, so investing in a large cities’ infrastructure seems like a big waste of money. They underfund them because they don’t really care if they succeed.

Because mostly Mexicans ride them, or something.

Really, I thought it was a way to reduce traffic congestion, get poorly skilled/under insured/uninsured drivers off the road, and reduce petroleum consumption. I mean hell, what’s preventing some thug from driving around in a car and doing the same thing? At least he doesn’t have to wait ten minutes for the next train to come to make his get-away.
Besides, it’s a great way to employ some white guys to build and manage the system and perform maintainance which should appeal to you…

If the infrastructure were actually made usuable by staffing it with people that are actually competent to run mass transit and a massive increase in policing on and around those sites I’m sure the only real complaints would be coming from retarded Libertarians.

I have to say, Alvin Greene came off a lot better in that video than I thought he would. My expectations were low, but he exceeded them.

As a former resident of the city, I don’t see how one can call New York a police state in any form. 37,000 cops for a city of 8.5 million seems rather low to me. In contrast, I think LA is underpoliced with only 10,000 cops and could use at least another 15,000 cops if it wants to seriously solve its crime problem.

One could simply mandate capital and operation spending that goes to providing more service instead of a blank check to transit agencies. Arguably, the Federal government gives very little in terms of operations spending to large transit systems, and the capital funding process goes through rather rigorous review before any of it is doled out. Of course, you would have to employ more people if one expands a transit system.

Well, generally, we’re dealing with a situation where what they want is a threat to my freedom and liberty, so there is little to compromise upon. There’s a difference between compromising on transportation funding and say subsidies to farmers and rural communities, and debating on whether our society should become an exclusionary patriarchy to the detriment of people like me or a multi-cultural state based on the principles of equality to the detriment of people like you. In this case, only one side can win, and we can’t both walk away as winners unless one becomes a separatist.
There was almost no correlation between percentage of non-white voters and Greene’s percentage of the vote when you look at county by county results. Greene managed to win in counties where the vast majority of voters are white, particularly Pickens County.

NYC subways were unliveable and largely shunned, as graffiti strewn combat zones, in the 1970′s-1980s. Bernie Goetz territory.
Its comeback was the economic cleansing of low-income non-Whites out of NYC, Rudy Guiuliani’s no tolerance policing (arrest troublemakers), and general gentrification.
You’re missing my point (I agree about the Bus Riders Union) — Mass transit only works if its safe and secure. If women alone don’t feel comfortable on it, they’ll take their own cars, no matter how beat up they are. Or older folks. Or White yuppies not looking for a fight. No one generally wants to be “Epic Bearded Man” in Oakland on the bus.
America is a multi-racial society. It buys peace by suburbia and the freeways. So Whites can live far away (as far away as possible) from NAMs and avoid hassle. The standard trope that Dr. King waged a moral war of enlightenment against racism is likely wrong. IMHO White folks remained as racist as they were after Dr. King as before, but moved out to the suburbs and just did not care if Detroit or Atlanta or Birmingham were run by Blacks. Into predictable ruin.
A place like NYC can work with transit because cars are almost unbearable in the congested, compact city, there’s heavy policing, and NAMs have been at least partially economically cleansed out of high-cost Manhattan. Even then you have notorious incidents that threaten the city’s transit services.
Wilshire during all hours is basically unbearable. A subway to the Sea (and another line around say, Ocean down to Playa Del Rey and up to Malibu) would be great.
BUT … and this is the HUGE but … it would require heavy policing, arresting a LOT of Latino and to a lesser extent Black permanent criminal underclass, take the political heat for doing so, and create economic cleansing of the areas. Something politically not possible in LA. Folks like Broad and other real estate folks figure that LA is politically a lost cause — a La Raza city that is destined to become Mexico City. Which is why they are withdrawn from politics and looking to maximize real estate returns before cashing out.
Infrastructure provides only marginal economic returns. You get more bang for buck, including high-wage employment, and threatening inconvenient enemies, by constructing a large navy and air force. Japan poured concrete on anything that didn’t move for twenty years … and got nothing.
So, minorities will vote for one of their own, no matter how retarded is him.
