In Soviet Russia, crap write you!

Even Russia has left-wing bleeding heart liberals. An utter pussy by the name of Robert Bridge wrote an article for Russia Today Friday morning, in which he deliberates on his views – those views being the complete and total backstabbing of Western civilization. Thursday was Draw Mohammed Day, in which our dear Ferdinand took part, as well as myself. The entire purpose of the holiday was to point out that occidental free speech cannot be intimidated and that death threats are not the actions of intelligent, enlightened people. Robert, on the other hand, seems to think it was just done in order to get a rise.

Right from the beginning, the article left me apprehensive. Robert seems to think that Islamic law trumps everything else, and that merely insulting the prophet is peanuts in comparison. Or am I reading it wrong?

But not only were the content of the cartoons insulting to the founder of Islam… [the cartoons] violated Islamic law, which decrees that it is blasphemous, and therefore punishable, to depict Mohammed in any way, shape or form. That would include cartoons.

It really does sound like he finds the contempt of modern Stone Age law to be worse than defamatory renderings and facetiae of a religion’s central holy figure.

Robert then goes on to recount Pakistan’s blocking of YouTube and Facebook in a rather bored tone; as if an entire country of people, many who possibly don’t care either way about Mohammed, being bereft of social connectivity and information lines is no real problem. To the rest of us, it is a small victory; if a bittersweet one. These mentally challenged mouth-frothers are on the run, putting their fingers in their ears and their heads in the sand. They have tried to censor us in our own countries and have failed, and now they black out their entire country rather than face our mockery of their cowardly posturing. We won’t stop laughing at the ridiculous things they believe in, but the amount of time they can reasonably divorce themselves from the rest of the world is short. The score is even: numerous kills on their side, a full army in retreat for us; and we didn’t even have to get out of our chairs.

From here Pussy A starts whinging on about how disgusted and insulted he was by the cartoons. I’ll write that again. He was insulted by ink on paper! Didn’t your mother ever teach you that “sticks and stones,” aw fuck it. Wuss-tard Robert thinks that legitimate parodies of a central societal figure are not okay when they belong to other people – because we seem to do a lot of it here at home. He thinks we should play nice because “[Muslims] are increasingly becoming our next-door neighbors in communities across Europe.” Completely obviating the fact that quite a few of the ones in Europe are rallying on TV, burning flags, and screaming death to, well, just about everyone. You don’t “play nice” with the knife-wielding psycho. You also don’t invite them in for a nice chat, which is what Robert prescribes. When someone does nothing but spout hackneyed party lines and vitriolic hate-speak, there is really nothing to talk about. You can’t reason with someone who is unwilling to listen.

Robert then goes on to say that losing a little freedom of speech is okay, as long as no-one feels bad. We all know how useless such a regard is; and, for that matter, losing any freedom of speech is a bad thing and must be fought tooth and nail. It is pretty much the foundation of our culture, and you don’t let your foundation crack by even a hairline. Robert doesn’t agree.

…it may be better to ask if anybody truly lost their “freedom of speech” or personal liberties by restraining themselves from scrawling a picture of Mohammed? Personally, I don’t think so.

Tool.

Robert then plays the guilt chip and suffers us the mistakes of the Iraq War, blaming us for “self-censorship” about the details of the war. Hey jackwad! It was the Afghanistan war that we were behind! We did speak out against the Iraq war, half the country did. It was then that we started questioning Bush and mumbling to ourselves “this cowboy is crazy.” It was too late, we all still had culture shock from the Muslim terrorist attack and the sweeping legislation that shaved at our rights right under our noses. We were all still a little scared to sleep at night for fear of anthrax or a dirty nuke and needed overseas victories to stroke our damaged egos. 9/11 was a kick to the balls, and it reminded us that we weren’t invincible, and we didn’t like it. Yes, we acted like playground bullies who had got their comeuppance, but we didn’t censor ourselves in order to save someone’s “feelings”; a vastly overpriced commodity. We were dicks, but that doesn’t give other people the right to be dicks; just like getting pushed on the playground didn’t give you the right to push back, or did your mother forget that lesson too?

Freedom of speech is far too important to give up on, it is too integral to our civilization, and must be protected at all costs. We are starting to remember that. There is a reason for tenure at universities; it’s so that bright professors who have proven their worth won’t be fired when they come up with crackpot ideas, like that the earth revolves around the sun. It protects them from useless fallout from racist remarks that have absolutely no bearing on their abilities as a scientist, yet engender such ridiculous social outcries. Free speech protects the journalist as much as it does the Ku Klux Klan member, and you should know that, Robert. You’re a class traitor, and I’m throwing you under the bus.

Special thanks to Thunderfoot for clueing me into Draw Mohammed Day and for fighting so strongly for free speech, and thanks to Ferdinand for hosting this.

Note to my critics – I’ve been reading your comments, both on my Muhammad post and at Black&German Alte Cecilia’s blog, and I will be responding to the more intelligent ones in a post tomorrow. Would’ve have posted it today, but I was too busy with other things. Stay peeled.

Oh, goody! I was thinking that you were ignoring us, and afraid to meet us in open debate.
I should’ve expected more from you.

Good for you. The only think that can allow the barbarians to win is the silence of the non-barbarians. Keep the good job.

By the way, Islam is a religion of intolerance and hatred.

It’s not.

It would not be a “real problem” if every single country on Earth were denied access to YouTube and Facebook.

Hell, there are times when I think the entire internet is nothing but a waste of time that provides little more than spam, and porn, and spam about porn.

Visit an islamic country, hell even a moderate islamic country like Egypt, and you shall find only contempt for this vile religion. It subjugates free thought and denigrates everyone who isn’t “alpha enough”.

Well, the 90% of the Internet is just that. But the other 10% is very useful
