Bullshit. Fallout 3 is one of the best games ever. I clocked 45 hours in the retail version then another chunk of my life went into the expansion packs. Borderlands seems so vapid in comparison.
But in respect for the quality of your blog, (you blog is still better than mine etc) I’ll forgive you this temporary lapse of judgement.
i was actually glancing at it and reading some reviews yesterday. i’m replaying FEAR right now with my newly found free time of being single. i can see the appeal in descending into a fantasy world where you get redo’s when you fail and emerge victories by plugging away in a game world…..
Billie Holliday is really incredibly depressing to listen to. Like Kurt Cobain, her music can almost be thought of as a cry for help. I’d much rather listen to Ella Fitzgerald.

That game is AWESOME! I played it yesterday and I am going to play it again today. I got mad at my wife for wanting wsex while I was playing. I think you must be a homosexual.

While the game ain’t that bad indeed, this should make you think.
Well, it’s not as good as the first two, no. But then again, the first two, even including 1′s ridiculous time limit and 2′s gawdawful bugginess, were definingly good games. So a lot of quality games that are worth the time and money to play also “suck”, in comparison.
Fallout 3′s main story is, yes, pretty OMGWTFBBQAA[beepbeep]MCO bad, and the gameplay stops being challenging too early. But many of the side quests are excellent, and the Capitol Wasteland itself is both huge and gorgeous, good enough to simply wander in around sight-seeing. There’s still places and events I haven’t been to and triggered yet that are on my virtual tourism list.
More personally, I was worried that the sneaky sniper playstyle I enjoyed so much in the first two would be ruined by the switch to 3D. I shouldn’t have been concerned; as it turns out, F3 provides an even better simulation of it, including at least two dueling opportunites with other sniper combatants. The pure OSOK deliciousness of clambering around in scalable outcroppings or creeping through the night underbrush to reach that perfect sniping position and take out the enemy has been intensely satisfying.
Additionally, the engine is capable of some remarkable procedural events. For example, at one point I was stealthing through the wilderneath with Dogmeat behind me when he spooked a yao-guai. It charged him; I went into VATS, still crouched, and targeting the head, and as we dropped into slow-mo, the yao-guai leaped over me while I cycled and fired three time, dropping it dead at Dogmeat’s feet when it landed. The automated camera tracking and framing was beyond most scripited and directed cutscenes; it was up to professional studio film standards and had a comparable emotional impact.
It was literally stunning; I sat back and just stared at the screen in amazement for a few minutes, completely geeked out. The only game I’ve played in the past few years that has been more consistently cinematic is Portal (I haven’t gotten to BioShock yet).
Ok, admittedly, I was playing on a 10-foot digitally projected screen at 720p in a light-controlled room, but still. It was sweet, sweet heroin eye candy, and I don’t really play games for visual impact; I’m much more interested in plot and tactics gameplay as a rule.
In short, I recommend it highly, without even having dipped into the additional content yet, despite having bought the GOTY edition a couple of months or so ago. Ack Bob says check it out.

I try to make a subtle point about femininity and gender relations in America by comparing two songs from two different time periods, and all you people can do is bitch about my opinion of a video game?

Fallout 3 cannot hold a candle to the original fallout.
Additionally, that Lady Gaga song is a brilliant exposition to the pathology of the western female mind.
I like Gaga’s song better.
Perhaps its the beat or the fact that Gaga is talented enough to pull of the arrogance involved in her song. Or also the fact I like her choice of costumes in that vid, whereas often I cringe at what she wears.
That being said, Ferdinand, in general females in Holidays time were more sane or at least more responsible adults and in general made better wives. Even in the 20′s and 30′s there was a place for strong women such as Gaga the thing was that:
A. They weren’t the norm though they had thier fans
B. They weren’t actively promoted as THE image a female should strive for, and their sexual power was legitimized through marriage and in no other way
C. Their audience wasn’t generally teenagers, but more mature adults
Yep, there is a tremendous difference between the two songs. Gaga’s song might be appropriate for a woman who never intends to marry or procreate or for a girl enjoying a few years (note I said a few) before settling down. The song has a catchy beat but philosophically is empty except maybe to warn guys about female players. Holiday’s has by far the best advice, in that the attitude she displays in her song is very attractive.
