The end of an era

in Sex

HELP, the Rio de Janeiro nightclub that Thomas Kohnstamm described as “the largest prostitution pickup joint in the Americas” in Do Travel Writers Go to Hell?, is no more:

Help, the notorious night club in Copacabana, in the South side of Rio, that became legendary for catering to foreign tastes offering music, easy booze and plenty of women ready for sex for a price, tried a last delaying tactic to keep its doors open at least till Carnaval, in mid February, but this time it didn’t work.

Rio’s governor Sergio Cabral gave an ultimatum determining that the place should be empty by Saturday. The location will be used to build the new Museum of Image and Sound (MIS). Construction should last three years starting in 2010. Wednesday night ended up being the last time the place was open for business after an afternoon auction to sell Help’s belongings.

The process to close the night club started in January 2008. In November, an agreement between the Windsor Group, owner of the club and the state of Rio extended till the end of 2009 the deadline to close the place.

Opened in 1984, Discoteca Help was geared initially toward Rio’s upper middle class as a place to dance, but at the end of the 1980s it found its new vocation as a space for sex tourism turned mainly to foreign tourists.

For those of you who prefer to pay for your sex, it is a sad, sad day.

No it is not.. you just have to use outcall escorts. Based on my experience, a properly run outcall agency beats anything else by a mile.

Questions to Ponder Over: 01
http://dissention.wordpress.com/2010/01/08/questions-to-ponder-over-01/

“An example: What will keep most men motivated to work themselves to death, when they have no advantage in doing so. The current dating and marriage markets are fucked. Kids have no social pressures to care for you in your old age. Your competence or ability in your job have no correlation with rewards, or any occupational security. Most people are a paycheck or two away from a downward spiral. The “elite”, whom many of you look upto, are busy sucking you dry with the active help of your elected officials.

While some of these conditions were present through most of history in feudal societies, they did not have the irreversible complexity, myriad possibilities, technology and communications that we now have. It also helped that they had very basic needs and simple supply chains, with high fertility rates. You see the problem..”

What will keep most men motivated to work themselves to death, when they have no advantage in doing so.

Play expensive video games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, for one.

If I were still single, I would have a 50″, super high end 1080p TV, PS3, XBox 360 and a collection of games big enough to have Best Buy build a VIP room just for me when I come rolling in.

Granted, I’m a Christian, so I can’t go clubbing looking for sex and dates, so YMMV, but I don’t think I, or many other men, would feel like I’m missing something by substituting a steady supply of video games, movies, etc. for what most women have to offer these days.

in her last year, Help became probably the poshest nightclub in Rio, with some of most exclusive parties with the creme de la creme of Rio´s upper class.

There at leat a dozen “last” parties in Help.

Cameras, hotels, train tickets, plane tickets, and cars aren’t cheap. Some of us may have parents to support, and my niece and nephew can use the money too.

for what most women have to offer these days

The trick is to find a female friend worth hugging.

LR is a hosebag. I think we all should create a class-action lawsuit against her for lack of enjoyment of Roissy’s postings.

The last time I went to Rio, my girlfriend and I got a deal on a hotel in Copacabana, which ended up being right next to Help. That place looked like it was buzzing all night.

The Copacabana beach front is like Rio’s Times Square (that’s where they celebrate New Year’s Eve, for example). Looks like the Brazilians are trying to Disney-fy a little in the run up to hosting the World Cup and then the Olympics.

BTW, if you go to Rio on vacation, don’t book a hotel in Copacabana — get one in Ipanema instead — the water is cleaner off of that beach.

In Rio massage parlors are popular spots for prostitution.

So I am playing the role of the snit. And I totally understand the appeal of a nice shiny 50″, believe me.

But um.

Does anyone, like, still read books anymore? You know, books, and not just fiction?

And lifting weights is kinda fun too. Taking walks, exercising the body and brain, being single gives a surplus of time for things other than video games

If a man is not part of a solution then he is part of a problem.

The fact that many single young men cannot think of much else to do with their time, on dropping out of an admittedly absurd rat-race, than condition themselves into couchpotatotude with repetitive doses of high octane video games bespeaks volumes about the crisis of manhood in our culture.

It is a cycle with nasty feedback.

What was that cartoon crunk video satire again..

“read a M–F– Book” or something to that effect.

So I shall step off my high horse and take my arse back to where it belongs, because the point has been made.
