This is why I own a gun

in Decline

The capital of New York State is such a lovely place to live:

UPD just received word from Albany Police that there was an attempted robbery which led to a stabbing on the corner of Western Ave. and Ontario Street at about 8:50 pm on Saturday evening, November 7.  There were two victims, one of whom was a UAlbany student.  The victims are both reported to be in stable condition.  The perpetrator of this incident remains at large. I will keep you apprised of new developments as necessary.

The suspect is still at large and is described as follows:  Black male, 5”11”, 185 lbs, blue jeans, black puffy coat, blue Yankee hat, beard, armed with possibly a kitchen knife.

How many incidents like this have we had in Albany this year? A dozen? More than that? And they’re not just happening in the projects and the slums, but in the “good” neighborhoods. But hey, the APD installed a CCTV camera at that intersection, so it’s all good, right?

All of you fuckers who voted for Jerry Jennings should be dragged out in the street and shot – which, if the crime rate is any indicator, may just happen to you anyway. You’re prima facie evidence that most people are too stupid for democracy.

Meanwhile, I’ve just added “can clean a gun” to the list of talents any woman who is interested in winning my heart should cultivate. Prepare yourself for the coming anarchy, because it won’t be pretty.

CCTV will only work well if it is monitored live otherwise it is only ever going to be a reactive tool to use after a crime has been committed.

You may own a gun, but do you carry it on your person? If not, then it’s not going to do you much good.

Fortunately, I live a in a very pro-gun state. Open carry is legal, concealed carry is very easy to get licensed for. Legal or not, though, I know at least two women who carry concealed without a permit.

Unless “cleaning your gun” is a euphamism for something else, it doesn’t make much sense. Every man should clean his own weapons, if he plans on using them for personal defense. He needs to know with confidence that they are clean, functional and loaded. When you let someone else take care of the essentials, be prepared for the essentials to not be taken care of.

Sadly, even building more prisons has its limits. Since most criminal cases go unsolved, the bad guys never see the inside of a prison (except to visit their dads). Nor can police be everywhere to prevent crimes. Self defense is the best option for a civil society that still retains uncivilized elements.

reminds me of how Starship Troopers by Heinlein was decried b/c it seemingly advocated voter privilege gained through civil service…imagine? voting not a privelege? what you say? all your base are belong to us. jeesus.

You cannot sustain enough prisons. Period.

You would have to be willing to incarcerate 4% of your population if you wanted to sweep the streets of most criminals.

Actually, it’s more like 6%, as estimated by experts such as Prof. James Q. Wilson.

Can’t. The only way to get licensed to carry a gun in this state is to be a celebrity, a politician, or be “cleaning someone’s gun.” And given how the APD works, they’re far more likely to arrest someone like me for a non-crime then an actual perp.

Well, of course I know how to maintain my gun. I can also cook for myself and clean too – doesn’t mean I don’t want a girl who can handle those things too.

you’re so sexy when you get all feisty ;)

Then you should have declared that you want a woman who can clean her own gun(s) and knows how to use them.

with 4-6% of a population being violent criminals you have to be more creative:
1. Only violent offenders get jail time.
2. REALLY violent offenders get swift execution.
3. Violent offenders with foreign origens get housed (under contract) in jails in their home country.

That should cut it down to a “sustainable” level.

As a side point, I tend to be pro-gun control in the context of a “white” country, but in Haiti, I’d advocate for all citizens to maintain a gun at all times to ensure a “polite” society. Mind you, I prefer the feeling of not having to own a gun to protect myself and maintain my liberty and freedom. Regardless, I’ve generally felt that the solution in a country like the United States is essentially to swarm neighbourhoods with high crime with high levels of police. Short of that, we’re left with the legally impossible and politically unavailable option of deportation (or genocide) of NAMs.

Every time a law-abiding citizen kills a criminal or criminals they save at least several other lives besides their own. That often includes the lives of police officers and witnesses.

Bummer about your state laws, fbardamu. Rights that are not regularly exercised first become unfashionable, then eventually illegal.

That said, carrying a firearm is a big responsibility. But then again, so is assuming responsibility for your own physical safety.

I rarely “open carry” . . it’s an inherently anti-social act, even in a gun-friendly state. Concealed carry, where legal, is definitely the way to go. I’d urge you to look into the exact rules of your state and see what’s available. You might be surprised.

I know the rules inside and out. New York is a “may-issue” state in regards to concealed carry – pistol permits (which you need to own and carry a handgun) are issued by individual counties and at the whims of local officials. Meaning in rural counties, it’s easy as pie to get a permit, but nearly impossible to get one in an urban county. Here in urban, liberal Albany County, my chances of getting a pistol permit are zero.
