He’s on a roll today, taking down the idiots who think the current recession was caused by men in his Takimag column. A snippet:
Of course, that just underlines the fact that white guys are still primarily the ones keeping this society running.
And that means that if the conventional wisdom is true—that public criticism is horribly deleterious to self-esteem—this would imply, logically, that white males are going to stop creating new things and increasingly just retreat in a funk into playing WoW—well, then, we’re all in big trouble.
I’m increasingly becoming convinced that Sailer is the smartest, wisest, most insightful conservative intellectual writing today. If you’re not reading him, you’re not informed – period.

Ferdinand,
Yup, been readin Sailer off and on for more than five years. Highly recommended. Though he does have his “on some other ish” moments.
I agree w/his views on this one, definitely. Simply put, White guys are still the only game in town at this point, which is why I’m all for them learning as much Game as they can. We can’t afford to have the Richie Cunningham equivalent to what China is dealing with.
The Obsidian
I nominate the manipulated herb in the commercial as Beta of the Decade as a representative of all the other whipped men who were pressured into spending beyond their means.
Love that article, and Sailer is a fellow I’ve been reading for years as well, off and on.
I especially like the subtle reference to the long-suffering cracker male pulling an mild Atlas and shrugging as he goes to play XBox.
With respect to Obsidian, white dudes aren’t the only game in town these days. I’m thinking Asian males and non-US resident Asian females. Should white guys go off and sulk, as I think they will, thus dooming them to the bottom rungs of society same as blacks, their departure will simply clear the way for Indians and Chinese to take up the slack.
God I count myself blessed with a woman with a respect for money–neither of us had it when we were young–and one who checks with me before all major purchases.
His article was very good, I agree.
The point he didnt cover is female credit card and second mortgage debt — both used to fuel daily consumerism. The mall exemplifies that women are the spenders, and in a debt-fueled economy, only a sexist bitch feminist would withhold blame on the spenders. But that’s the world we live in … women hold men responsible for even their own mistakes.
Sailer’s great. Been reading him off and on for five years as well. He has an outstanding blogroll. Maybe one day we’ll make it on there!
I think it’s a bit of a stretch to call Sailer a social conservative. He’s far too detached and laid-back, too hesitant to explicitly advocate anything. His position is more one of the ivory tower; I picture him sitting back with his feet up on his desk, saying to passers-by: ” oh, by the way, if you want to have a stable and prosperous first-world civilization, the data show that these policies [which happen to be mostly socially conservative ones] are probably the best ones to implement… just thought you might like to know that. In case you care.”

Amen to that.
